Children & Babies

As regulated health professionals, chiropractors may focus their practice on specific population groups such as pregnancy, children and babies. At present there is limited available evidence for the effectiveness for chiropractic in treating conditions specific to these groups such as colic, feeding problems or morning sickness in pregnancy; however, like adults, children and babies can experience musculoskeletal aches and pains too. All McTimoney Chiropractors are trained to offer chiropractic care for children and many go on to complete extra postgraduate training in pediatric care and are very experienced in the care of children and babies of all ages.

Referral: Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills  and if your chiropractor feels your child's problem is not suitable for chiropractic care or needs further investigation, they will liaise with your GP and other health care providers to arrange an appropriate referral, as long as you provide your permission to do so.

Most children easily shrug off the rough and tumble of daily life. As life progresses, however, there are many incidents which can lead to niggling discomfort or more specific problems such as back or neck pain, migraines and headaches. Basically, children can experience all the same aches and pains as adults do.

Aches and pains in children can be from the numerous bumps, falls and tumbles that are an inevitable part of childhood, poor posture, for example, use of gaming equipment, laptops, tablets etc., carrying heavy bags to and from school and sitting on ill-fitting furniture and of course sports and PE.
